Representatives from Wakefield Music Collective and Street Scene Engagement Officer Gary Sherrington have recently been working on a funding bid to improve Clarence Park Bandstand. Gary is pleased to inform us that the funding application submitted to WREN (waste recycling environmental agency) has been successful and the WREN board have allocated £50,000 towards the project, Wakefield Council will also match fund the scheme with a contribution of £10,000.
The group are looking to preserve the bandstand as a lasting community venue for future generations with improvements that include:
- A new roof
- New guttering, fall pipes and facia boards
- Refurbish both basement rooms
- Painting external & internal
- Damp eliminated
- New lighting
- Alarm installed
- New Drainage and tarmac to front of building
Wakefield Music Collective have worked tirelessly to bring an array of different bands and solo artist’s to Wakefield over the years and continue to do so with their 2013 calendar being one of the busiest yet. With funding secured the aim is to expand the use of the building to other groups such as Amateur Dramatics, Church Choirs and School’s within the Wakefield area or further afield hopefully spreading the uses of the Bandstand to the wider audience and community.
