Bandstand Consultation

Wakefield Council have recently commenced working with the Clarence Park Bandstand starting with a consultation.

The Clarence Park Bandstand Project has been set up with the aim of improving the Bandstand for various user groups and the Community. We hope to achieve two objectives through this project; to upgrade the Bandstand and to ensure the sustainability of the Bandstand by generating interest from a wider audience.

The project hopes to take into account all age groups and meet the needs of the community of Wakefield as a whole.

We hope to carry out the following:

  • DAMP ELIMINATED
  • NEW ROOF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL
  • GRASS AREA AT FRONT OF BUILDING REMOVED AND TARMACED OVER
  • OUTSIDE LIGHTING ALL AROUND
  • NEW GUTTERING
  • ALL ROTTEN WOOD REPLACED
  • ALARM INSTALLED
  • 2ND BASEMENT ROOM USEABLE
  • NEW NON-SLIP FLOORING ALL OVER
  • OUTSIDE OF BUILDING REPAINTED

If you live near Clarence Park or if you visit the park for events held at the Bandstand, would you like  to see it restored and repaired in order for it to be used in the future by all the community?

Wakefield Music Collective will be carrying out a joint bid with WMDC in order to repair and refurbish the bandstand.

We are asking local people and anyone who is interested in seeing the Bandstand restored and used regularly to add their approval: to help us, help make Clarence Park Bandstand a venue for the whole community, please show your support for our initiative by adding your comments below or indeed a separate letter of support. All would be gratefully received!

More information is available in the consultation letter and questionnaire which you can download as a PDF file here.

  1. Me and my band played the young band showcase in may at the bandstand, it was in a pretty bad state, time has come down hard on the place, the bandstand definately needs restoring to a condition that will encourage new acts to play there, and families to come and and watch, Wakefield needs a great outdoor venue

  2. This is good news. I will be highly supportive of this idea. It is right and timely to undertake resorative work on such a facility.

  3. The Bandstand has proved to be a valuable community resource for many years. I hope the join effeorts of the Wakefield Music Collective and Wakefield Council will help secure its future.

  4. I like many others have some great memorys of this building, it is an iconic part of Wakefield and I totally support any efforts to sucure its future.

  5. It’s such a shame to see it not being used more than it could be, completely support the project. Clarence is a big event for Wakefield also.
